ARTIST STATEMENT

Hugo Aguirre’s work focuses on creating live sculptural experimentations with found objects. He is interested in transforming and redefining the purpose and value of everyday objects. The key concepts at play in his work are creation, reconstruction and repetition. Hugo uses the form of durational installation to explore and test the shape, texture, sound and abstract symbolism of different materials. He explores how his moving body interacts with the material and confronts the limitations of the human body when faced with creating perfect symmetry. He believes that art is an ongoing creative process and that the process of discovery is as important as the creations themselves. Hugo’s live and ephemeral bricolage art investigates the abstract concepts of reuse and change more broadly. He uses ordinary objects and repetitive movement to create conceptual sculpture in a space, allowing the possibility for a different perspective on the mundane. These sculptural experimentations bring into question the complexity of what is commonly deemed simple.
